Getting Ready…

Today, Jordan and I spent the afternoon making some visits and getting ready for the 2nd Annual Camping Retreat.  After eating lunch at the highly acclaimed Mexican restaurant, Taco Bell, we went to see a couple of the youth in Masterson Station Subdivision.  Only 1 of the 3 were home, but it was good to spend a couple of minutes talking with Austin.  Then we headed off to Wal-Mart to purchase food, drinks, and supplies for the upcoming camping retreat.  I am really looking forward to this trip and have been making final plans all week.  I think we are ready.  Tomorrow morning we will be taking Mason to my parents house for the weekend and then loading up the church van for the trip.  Pray for us this weekend!

Are your friends making you fat?

I was watching the news last night and they had a report that stated that obesity is caused by your social circle.  Basically, you are fat because your friends and family are fat.

“The study says obesity has become a “socially contagious” disease — spreading person to person almost like a virus.”

– CBS News

The report went on to say that we take on the habits of our friends.   I would agree that we take on the habits of our friends.  I have seen way too many students fall into habits because of who they hang around.  But, I am not fat because my family and friends are fat.  That is so false!  I am fat because I like a good Chinese buffet, pizza, ice cream, and Mt. Dew!  And you know what?  I haven’t seen any of the youth put on weight just because they hang around me… so… maybe I am not fat after all.

Isn’t this exactly what the world has been trying to tell us for generations?  Never take responsibility for you own actions.  It can’t be your fault that you are fat… no you must blame others.  If you were to take the blame it would show that somehow you are responsible for your own actions and we know that can’t be true.

Check out the news story and let me know what you think about it….

By the way… Thanks to Immanuel Baptist Church, in Lexington, for allowing me to use their workout facilities this week.  Abby had something for school at the church and I had a couple of hours to kill.  Jason and the staff were willing to let me use the facilities for this week.  If you need a place to workout in the Tates Creek Road area, check them out.  You can still workout there and come to Master’s on Sundays!

Mission Trip

July 25, 2007 Marc McLean 1 comment

The first Saturday of every month we have a men’s prayer breakfast at Master’s Church at 7:30 am. I know, I know it is really early! In July we had Keith Madison, former UK Baseball coach to come and speak to us. While he was there, we struck up a conversation about how I love the Yankees. He began to share with me that the organization that he is with, Score International,  does a Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic every year that is a baseball outreach. Well that got me interested, but when he told me that Mariano Rivera (Yankees closer and future Hall of Famer) and Andy Phillips (Yankees 1st baseman) are speakers on this trip, I was sold!

I talked to Amy about the trip and my brother-in-law, Steve, and they both encouraged me to go. The hard part is that it costs about $1500. That is a lot of money that could buy formula and diapers. As for right now I am still praying about the trip and the money. I know that if this is something that God is leading me to, He will provide the money to go. I just had it on my mind and thought I would write a blog about it.  Check it out, Score International.

To Daycare or Not?

To Daycare or Not…. That is the question.  Amy and I are having a hard time deciding on what to do with Mason after Mary Beth goes back to school.  Do we put the little guy in Daycare or Not?  Daycare is so expensive and we worry that they will not watch or hold him like we would, but on the other hand it may be our only option.  We would love to have someone to watch him at our house, but who do you get and how do you know you made the right choice?

Amy has taken on much of the worry in this situation, but yesterday it hit me that my son could be crying in a crib for a long time and nobody would care.  That is a scary thought!  I guess we will just continue to pray and seek God’s guidance on this issue.  He has provided when we saw no way out before and I know that He will do it again.

2nd Annual Camping Retreat

It is time for our 2nd Annual Camping Retreat. This is a great time for us to hang out and have some fun. The dates for the retreat are August 1st-4th. We will be staying at Morgan’s Canoe and Camping Center just north of Cincinnati, OH. Besides the 3 nights of camping in tents, we will have our days packed with fun activities like The Beach Water Park, The Cincinnati Zoo, and a 12 mile Canoe trip. Also, everyone that goes will receive one of the New M.Y.X. t-shirts. (If you already have one don’t worry, all the cool kids have 2) This trip is open for anyone entering the 7th grade up to the 2007 graduates.

The cost of the trip is $75 per student, plus 4 meals. We will provide donuts every morning for breakfast and provide supper one night; all other meals are the student responsibility, generally at a fast food restaurant. You must have your $25 deposit & shirt size in to me No Later than Wednesday, July 25th to hold your spot. Everyone will need to have the Master’s Church Medical Release Form and Morgan’s Canoe Release Form filled out before we go. You may download them by going to the forms page above. Below are links to the Itinerary for the weekend and also a “What to Bring list”.

We are in need of 2 or 3 tents for the weekend, so if anyone has a tent that we could borrow that would be great. If you have any questions send me an email or give me a call.

Neil Peart

July 17, 2007 Marc McLean 2 comments

I don’t know about this guy Theology, but He is the best drummer of all time! His name is Neil Peart and is the drummer of a group RUSH. Some of you may remember them from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. They now have a new CD out. I haven’t heard it, so I can’t give you my opinion. I saw them once in concert and they were awesome! The 10 minute drum solo was worth the ticket price. Check out this video below…

New Website

So… The new Master’s Church website is now up and running. It isn’t in it’s final form, but it is still very useable and neat to surf. Click on the link under my “Blog Roll” to go directly to it. Let us know what you think about the new look!
